This is Evelynn Runeflame, aka Lady Evelynn. She is 's character.
The first time I saw the character was in this drawing, and I think it's a great drawing that balances the small waist and massive upper/lower bodies to create a figure that is both feminine and yet intimidatingly powerful. Great character design makes the character more interesting, and this is a great design. So I asked Hemisphere if I could take a shot at the character.
For my take, I ran through numerous pencil sketches, trying to get a good pose and outfit and setting, and finally just went with a basic pose that allows her to put her muscularity on display, and in the end I kept the swimsuit outfit with the long gloves. She's not as feminine as Mr. Zero's version, but I tend to go with less curvy physiques and smaller breasts (not to say that her's are small...) and try to make up for it with poses that have the hips swinging in one direction or the other. The basic pose was drawn freehand with no references, but when the time came to make sure that the arms and legs had good proportions and musculature, I knew I'd need to crack open the muscle mags and get those right. I took a page from Dale Keown on the arms, trying to minimize the size of the biceps relative to the rest of the arm, which gives the impression of larger and thicker arms.
I wish I'd spent more time on both the tail (making it longer, rounder, and more animated) and the wings (spreading them a bit to give a better idea of the size and detail) but I think I got lost in making sure the muscles and proportions looked right.
I'll probably post the various sketches that I drew as I was getting a feel for the character, since there are four or five of those and they're done in graphite pencil and thus are pretty sharp and clear.
And finally- I kept the image very large (~2042 x 2736) in case anyone wants to take a crack at coloring it. I may try to at some point, but I'm going to spend the next week or so on a few other items I'd like to post soon and frankly my coloring isn't very good.
Thanks. This might be my favorite drawing because I think I got the proportions just right. There is a balance in this figure that I usually struggle to achieve, and no matter how many times I've studied it to find a flaw in the proportions, I can't do it.
Now if I could just fix that tail...
