This is the first of three pages I did back in... 1991 or 1992. The number of problems with this page, and the two that follow, are so numerous I won't even bother to list them. What I will remember is the enthusiasm and sheer love for the craft that I had back then. I can't even imagine doing lettering and sound effects by hand anymore, or doing full pencils and inks (which I did with these pages). These days I go from loose sketches done with a non-photo pencil straight to inks, and then Photoshop and Illustrator get the rest.
I guess that sounds more negative than it really is. I love telling stories through the medium of art and comics. And I love it more now that there are so many tools that improve the process. So maybe it's just a touch of nostalgia, but I look at these pages and think that the person who created them did so with a feeling of pure joy in his heart. So here's to imagination, and to letting it spill forth onto a blank page, forever and ever.
